On Wednesday September 12th the Trust, alongside Dr Alexandra Pitman, UCL presented the human and economic case for more support across the UK for people affected by suicide, to the All Party Parliamentary Group on suicide prevention, chaired by Madeleine Moon MP.
In the UK about 6,000 people take their own life every year. One suicide costs £1.67m, which means it costs the UK £10bn each year or £27m each day, according to the Department for Health and Social Care.
People who are bereaved by suicide are at 65% greater risk of taking their own lives and yet, support is only available is a very, very few areas.
The cost of providing suicide bereavement support for everyone affected across the UK would be around £12m a year. We just need to save seven lives.
